Door Left Ajar or a Bad Seal

Humid room air rushes in whenever the door is open or poorly sealed, then freezes on the coldest surfaces.

Fix: Check the gasket and make sure nothing blocks the door from closing fully.

Auto-defrost fridges melt frost periodically; when that system fails, ice accumulates on the evaporator.

Fix: Replacing the defrost heater or thermostat restores normal operation.

In a humid climate like Dallas, long door openings load the freezer with moisture.
