Broiler Not Working: Element and Igniter Checks

When the broiler stays cold but baking works, the upper element or broil igniter is the likely fault.

A dead broiler with a working bake function isolates the problem to the top of the oven.

Inspect the Broil Element (Electric)

The top element can fail independently of the bake element.

Fix: Look for breaks or blistering and replace if damaged.

Gas broilers have their own igniter that can weaken with age.

Fix: A glow-without-light igniter needs replacing.

Some ranges require the door at a specific position or a separate broil setting.

Fix: Check the manual for the correct broil setup before assuming a fault.
