Most likely causes
- Frost buildup in the ice compartment from warm air leaking past the ice maker cover or seal.
- Ice bucket frozen in place or chunks blocking the auger.
- Fan or heater in the ice maker area not working properly.
- Water inlet valve or filter issues, same as any brand.
- Ice maker module failure.
Try this before you book
- Remove the bucket and check for solid ice in the compartment.
- Use the ice maker test button (on many models, located on the ice maker itself) to force a harvest cycle.
- Thaw the compartment with a hair dryer on low. Keep it away from plastic edges.
- Write down any error code on the display. It speeds up diagnosis.
What the repair usually involves
- Ice compartment defrost and seal correction
- Ice maker module
- Ice compartment fan or heater
- Water inlet valve
Fix it or replace it?
Repair. Ice maker problems on Samsung fridges are isolated to the ice system and don't affect cooling. Some models have had extended warranty coverage or service programs for ice maker issues, so we'll help you check before you pay.
From John's notes: Defrosting it yourself works for a few weeks, but if the cause isn't fixed, the frost comes back. Most of our Samsung ice maker calls are people on their third or fourth hair-dryer session.
