Oven Door Locked After Self-Clean: How to Reset

Self-clean locks the door and can leave it stuck if it overheats or the latch motor stalls. Here is the safe reset.

The self-clean cycle deliberately locks the door at high heat. If it stays locked afterward, try this.

Let It Cool Completely

The latch will not release until the cavity drops below a safe temperature.

Fix: Wait 60–90 minutes after the cycle ends before expecting the door to unlock.

A brief power-off often resets a stuck latch motor.

Fix: Switch off the oven at the breaker for a minute, then restore power.

If it never releases, the latch motor or switch may have failed.

Fix: A technician can free and replace the latch assembly.
