Washer Vibrating and Shaking Violently? Do This

A washer that walks across the floor is almost always level, load, or shipping-bolt related — and easy to fix.

Excess vibration is hard on the machine and your floor. Three checks resolve the vast majority of cases.

Remove the Shipping Bolts

New front-loaders ship with transit bolts that must come out before first use.

Fix: Check the back panel for bolts and remove them — the manual shows their location.

An unlevel washer rocks and amplifies spin vibration.

Fix: Adjust the feet with a spirit level and tighten the lock nuts.

A single heavy item like a bath mat throws the drum off balance.

Fix: Wash bulky items with a few smaller pieces to keep the load even.
