Sparks inside a microwave are a fire risk. Stop the cycle and investigate before using it again.

Remove Any Metal

Foil, metal trim on dishes, or twist ties cause immediate arcing.

Fix: Use only microwave-safe cookware with no metallic decoration.

Check the Waveguide Cover

The small mica panel on the cavity wall chars and arcs when splattered with grease.

Fix: Clean it; if it is burnt or flaking, replace the cover.

Inspect the Cavity Paint

Chipped interior paint exposes metal that arcs.

Fix: A technician can advise on repainting with microwave-safe coating or replacing the unit.
