How Much Detergent Should You Really Use?

Use HE Detergent in HE Machines

High-efficiency machines use little water; regular detergent over-suds.

Fix: Use HE-rated detergent and follow the line marked for HE.

Detergent marketing encourages overuse; excess suds redeposit on clothes.

Fix: Start with half the recommended dose and adjust up only if needed.

Softened water lathers more, so the same dose over-suds.

Fix: Cut the dose further if your home has a water softener.
